Thailand Sets Ambitious Target to Become High-Tech Hub with 280,000 Strong Workforce

The program prioritizes three key areas: semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), and artificial intelligence (AI). The government has set specific targets, aiming to train 80,000 individuals in the semiconductor industry, a critical component for modern electronics. Additionally, 150,000 individuals will be trained in the burgeoning electric vehicle sector, which is experiencing rapid growth globally. Finally, 50,000 individuals will be equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in the field of artificial intelligence, a transformative technology with vast potential across numerous industries.

This strategic shift isn't entirely unexpected. Thailand already boasts a strong foundation in manufacturing and exports, acting as a significant producer of computer components and automotive parts. This existing industrial base positions Thailand well to capitalize on the advancements in semiconductors and EVs. Supamas Issaraphakdee, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, emphasized the program's comprehensive nature. The goal is to cultivate a diverse talent pool capable of driving Thailand's technological revolution, encompassing research and development alongside manufacturing expertise.

While the exact financial commitment for this large-scale workforce transformation remains undisclosed, the Thai government has outlined its dedication through various initiatives. Hundreds of high-tech training courses are being developed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in these in-demand fields. Additionally, a significant incentive is being offered to companies: a 250% tax deduction for training employees in these advanced technological areas. This financial advantage aims to encourage businesses to invest in their employees' skill development, fostering a collaborative environment between the government and the private sector.
